Woulda Coulda
Music and Lyrics by Zach Sweeney
It would have happened. If it could have happened.
Then it would have happened. If it could have happened, then it would.
Have happened, ain’t no good that it happened,
Not, it should have happened. If it could have happened, then it would.
My Papa told be back when I was young.
Everything happens because of what was done.
Feeling bad about what happened long ago.
It could not have happened differently, let it go.
Is it free will or is it destiny?
Seems like both of them are happening to me.
It would have happened. If it could have happened.
Then it would have happened. If it could have happened, then it would.
Have happened, ain’t no good that it happened,
Not, it should have happened. If it could have happened, then it would.
Why, Woulda Coulda?
This is an infectious song reflecting my philosophy about the way things happen in life. Many people have told me when I’m worried that if it could have happened, it would have happened. I used to tell my kids that. The last line is: Is it destiny or fate or free will? I kind of borrowed that from what Forrest Gump says when he’s at Jenny’s gravesite, about whether we’re just like feathers floating on the breeze or do we all have a specific destiny? This is one of my more recent compositions and I like the cool piano licks that flow throughout. Aidan plays guitar again on this song, and Dean’s sax is just really cool – reminds me of David Sanborn!
