STAR
Music and Lyrics by Zach Sweeney
Star so high, star so bright.
Beautiful star twinkling over me this night.
Star so high, can you see my girl tonight?
I know she’s far away, but can you give it a try?
How is she doing? Is she Okay?
Is she getting more beautiful each passing day?
Star, I love her. I wish she was with me here.
Staring into space, eyes full of tears.
Star so high, star so bright.
Thanks for being my friend tonight.
Star, just one more thing, and then goodnight.
Would you watch my girl, make sure she’s all right.
But here I go wishing on a star again.
But it seems my bad luck will never end.
She seems so far away, and you so near.
Star if you see her, tell her I love her.
Wish she were with me here.
Wishing on a star again. Wishing on a star again.
But here I go wishing on a star again.
But it seems my bad luck will never end.
She seems so far away, and you so near.
Star if you see her, tell her I love her.
Wish she were with me here.
Wishing on a star again.
About this song...
This is one of the tunes I wrote as a senior in high school. I had a crush on this cute girl Becky. She moved away halfway through the year, and I wrote the song about her. It’s an innocent tune about wishing on a star and hoping that star can somehow communicate to her that I’m thinking about and love her. I don’t know any specific motivation other than that I liked a girl who didn’t know I existed and I kept pining over her after she left. While it was originally about Becky, now as a loving father I sometimes think about the stars watching over my daughter Emiko. Other folks may think about their grandchildren. I like that it can be applied in different ways depending on one’s perspective. Aidan plays guitar on this song.
